In this project, the audience members are invited to become visual anthropologists. What do the portraits of people, ideas and scenes reveal about a sample of local culture and society? In each piece, details based on observation and analysis of the subject simultaneously capture a specific individual or concept as well as a broader lifestyle. As a whole, the growing inventory format of the installation unveils the nature and complexity of a community. The represented people are striking in unusual ways and together reflect cultural diversity and environmental awareness. For example the "Essex hot tub" is an absolutely unique space and stands alone as a micro-culture. The scenes and portraits are made of sewn and glued recycled material. The hand made quality adds another layer of singularity to each element.
Materiaux divers, tailles varies
Dans ce projet, les membres de l'audience sont invites a devenir des antropologistes visuels. Qu'est ce que ces portraits de personnes, d'idees, de scenes nous revellent sur l'echantillon de culture locale? Dans chaque portrait, des details basees sur des observations et analyses capturent simultanement un individu particulier et un mode de vie. Dans l'ensemble, le format d'un inventaire grossissant de l'installation denude la nature et la complexitee d'une communautee. Les personnes representees se demarquent de manieres inabituelles et refletent la diversitee culturelle d'une communautee, ou souvent la conscience environmentale est presente. Par exemple les "thermes Essex" sont une lieu absolument unique de Berkeley, que seule les femmes peuvent acceder, ce jardin naturiste est un havre de libertee ouvert 24h sur 24 au coeur de la ville. Les scenes et portraits sont faits et cousus a base de materiau recycles. Le cote fait-main rajoute un niveau de singularite a chaque element.
